Gary O’Hanlon, Chef at Viewmount House has won the Best Chef in Leinster

Ireland’s Blue Book is delighted to announce that Gary O’Hanlon of Viewmount House has been crowned Best Chef Leinster at the FOOD&WINE Magazine Restaurant of the Year Awards 2016 which took place on the 28th of August in Dublin.

Highly regarded as the most prestigious and authoritative in the Irish calendar, these awards recognise the best restaurants and culinary talent in Ireland. Gary has been the Head Chef of Viewmount House, Co. Longford since 2008. A first time winner of FOOD&WINE Magazine’s Best Chef in Leinster, Gary is famed for his knowledge of traditional Irish cooking with the skills he honed in Boston - both clearly evident in his culinary style. It was a great weekend for Gary who not only won this prestigious award but also welcomed his son Ollie into the world on Friday night.

Gary is also a columnist for the Irish Times Magazine, and is a regular on The Anton Savage Show, TV3's The Restaurant & 7 O’Clock Show.

Now in its 16th year, The FOOD&WINE Magazine Restaurant of the Year Awards in association with Nespresso Business Solutions, are considered the most prestigious and authoritative culinary awards in the Irish calendar. Recognising the best Irish restaurants and culinary talent, diners from all over Ireland were invited to nominate their favourite restaurants and chefs, with the top entries going forward for deliberation by a national culinary panel of judges, made up of industry experts and national food critics.
