Coopershill House Named on the Guardian Newspaper's Green Travel List 2010 !

February 2010:Ireland’s Blue Book is delighted to announce that Coopershill House has been named on The Guardian newspaper’s Green Travel List for 2010.  Consisting of only 75 travel companies and properties worldwide, the list recognises businesses that have gone the extra mile in reducing their carbon footprint.

Built in 1774 Coopershill Country House is a small luxury hotel situated in 500 acres of beautiful countryside in the heart of County Sligo. Walking is a favourite pursuit for guests and the estate is a haven for wildlife as well as home to a population of 250 fallow deer.

In June 2009 Coopershill was awarded an EU Flower Eco-label, the only sign of environmental good practice that is independently certified and recognised throughout the European Union.  Coopershill is largely heated by wind-blown timber from the estate, they harvest rainwater, tap into natural spring water and use a wetlands sewage system, all of which helped the house in earning its EU Flower certification.

Coopershill House has been the family home to 8 generations of the O'Hara Family.  Simon O’Hara comments: “We are most fortunate to live in a 236 year old Georgian house that was built in an age of self sufficiency and designed with enormous windows for light, to be heated with bio-fuels and to use the rain that falls on her roof.”

Coopershill is open to overnight guests from 1 April to 31 October.  The house is open all year for House Parties and Special Events.
