Marlfield House wins the AA Courtesy & Care Award 2009/10

<< Back

October 2009: The AA Courtesy & Care award is awarded to an establishment where guests can be assured of friendly and attentive service, of politeness, kindness and above all consideration and concern for their welfare at all times.

The 2009/2010 award recipient Marlfield House Hotel, Gorey, Co Wexford is an AA 3 Red Star Country House Hotel set on 35 acres of grounds and woodlands, privately owned and run by the Bowe family.

The house is beautifully decorated and furnished with antiques, paintings and vases of flowers from the garden.  The bedrooms are individually furnished and the six state rooms have private patios that open on to the lake and wildlife reserve. The extensive grounds include a croquet lawn, tennis court, woodland walks, a rose, vegetable and herb garden, which provides much of the produce for the kitchen.

There is very much a home from home atmosphere at the hotel, where the friendly team portray such confidence when dealing with guests. The management of the hotel has recently been handed over to daughters Margaret and Laura from mother and father, Mary and Ray Bowe after 30 years in business. Indeed Mary and Ray were previous winners of the Courtesy and Care award so it is good to see that the next generation of the Bowe family are continuing with their success.

Congratulating the award-winners, Martin Cullen TD, Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism said: "The Automobile Association is the longest established hotel-grading organisation in Ireland and now inspects over 600 establishments in the country.  It works in partnership with the Irish tourism industry and seeks to maintain, develop and reward excellent standards in Irish hospitality.  This selected group of 2009/2010 award-winning hoteliers and guesthouse owners have all attained the highest levels of operational standards and have consistently delivered high quality experiences to guests. I want to congratulate and thank the winners and all the participants, for their sustained pursuit of excellence within our Irish tourism industry."

The AA is Ireland’s longest established hotel grading organisation and now inspects over 600 establishments in the country. The details of Irish hotels and guest houses will be seen in guidebooks and travel guides world-wide and on the Internet. Customers from around the globe can book AA listed accommodation through the website www.aaireland.ie. For the consumer, AA endorsement is a guarantee of quality.
