It's Murder Mystery with a Gourmet Twist at tankardstown

A grand country house, complete with roaring fires in the massive antique fireplaces, a group of people enjoying a magnificent meal around a long mahogany table set with candelabras and fine old silver, and in their midst – a murderer!

No, it isn’t the scene of a classic movie, but the setting for an extra special murder mystery package this October in the stunning surroundings of Tankardstown Estate, just outside Slane in County Meath. The most terrifyingly perfect backdrop for a hilariously scary night of supping and sleuthing, the difference with the Tankardstown take on a murder mystery evening is twofold.

Firstly, this is the authentic venue, the grand country mansion Cluedo could have been based on, complete with all the requisite rooms – library, dining room, hall – and with all the appropriate grandeur and drama. Secondly, apart from the revolver, lead piping or dagger, the other weapon involved is the secret weapon of Richard Luckey, Tankardstown’s talented chef.

An exhausting business, this detecting, so a gourmet dinner will restore everyone’s energy and feed more than just the ‘little grey cells’ as Hércule Poirot might have it. A huge fan of his food, Poirot would no doubt thoroughly approve of the menu put together by Richard.

Featuring cured foie gras, baby pear tatin and iced wine jelly, rare loin of Finnebrogue venison with peppered fig and black onion seed cracker, Annagassan crab ravioli, soused cucumber, heritage tomato consommé and micro coriander, fillet of 35 day dry-aged Co. Meath Angus beef, herb crusted bone marrow, baby cauliflower and truffled potato purée, and honeyed panna cotta, wild blackberry crumble and apple crisps, this is a murderously tasty menu!

So get away with murder at Tankardstown, where one nights’ accommodation including breakfast, and gourmet dinner in the dining room of the luxurious main house with a backdrop of antiques, candles, glorious open fires – and high jinks and homicide! – costs €160 per person.

Many people are dying to come to Tankardstown, and very soon, someone will – could it be you, in the library, with the lead piping?!
