Enniscoe House in County Mayo is delighted to announce that it will be running its Blacksmithing Course again in the autumn. Under the guidance of professional blacksmith, Colin Highfield, this popular five day course runs from Wednesday to Sunday teaching beginners the basic skills and techniques of metal work.
The course attracts participants of both sexes, all ages and from all walks of life. According to DJ Kellett of Enniscoe House, “Some attendees have a desire to simply learn a new skill, others have a deeper interest in metal work and the traditional crafts. Everyone on the course experiences the rewards of producing a personal work using a hammer and anvil in our fully equipped forge. The new skills acquired, the teamwork, enjoyment and social aspect of the course ensures a thoroughly worthwhile and unique experience for all attendees.”
The five day course costs €350 per person. Accommodation is also available at €175 per person for the 5 days in self catering cottages but an upgrade to the main house is available for those who want more luxury. Dinner is served in the main house at 8.00 each evening at a cost €45 per person.
Pieces created by participations on the previous courses include, Poker sets, candle holders, and chisels.
