The Ice House Scoops Best Restaurant in Connaught accolade at the Food & Wine Awards

 

Seen as many in the industry as the ‘Oscars’ for the hospitality industry, the FOOD&WINE Magazine Edward Dillon Restaurant of the Year Awards 2009 were announced at a recent event at The Mansion House Dublin.

The Pier Restaurant at the Ice House Hotel and Spa, The Quay, Ballina won the title of Penfolds Best Connaught Restaurant.

The awards were announced Sunday 23 August in the Mansion House, Dublin. Now in their 9th year, the FOOD&WINE Magazine Edward Dillon Restaurant of the Year Awards are recognised as the most prestigious and authoritative culinary awards in Ireland.

This year the judging panel was expanded to include more regional expert knowledge from around the country, and a new Readers' Choice Award was also introduced.

The readers of FOOD&WINE Magazine were asked to nominate their favourite restaurants, chefs and sommeliers. Then a regional panel of experts (including academics, food writers and industry specialists) provided their own feedback on the list and created a shortlist from the nominations. Finally an expanded panel of national judges, using a secret ballot, voted on the various categories.

EDWARD DILLON Managing Director John Pearson commented: “We are delighted to be supporting the awards again this year. It’s vital that we continue to recognise and celebrate the outstanding achievements and talent of those working within the hospitality industry.”

Dara Cruise, General Manager of The Ice House was there to receive the award on the day and said ‘This is such a great achievement for us and I am so delighted to be bringing home this award to our dedicated team in Ballina.   Our Head Chef, Gavin O’Rourke and his brigade has worked so hard since our opening and it is great that their efforts and dedication has not gone unnoticed’.

Pier Restaurant at the Ice House is open for Dinner from 6.30pm to 9.30 pm Mon to Sat and to 9pm on Sundays.

A la carte and fixed price bistro menu available with Bistro Menu €33 for 2 courses and €39 for 3 courses. Open for Sunday Lunch from 2 to 6pm.
