Today, 18th October 2007, marks the official launch of Ireland's Blue Book 2008.The launch will be held this evening from 6 to 8pm at the RHA, Ely Place, Dublin 2.
Ireland's Blue Book is an exclusive listing of luxury Irish accommodation in Irish Country House Hotels, Manor Houses, Castles and Gourmet Restaurants, whose qualities combine charm, style, character and individuality. The members of Ireland's Blue Book
are renowned nationally and internationally for their high standards of traditional hospitality, elegant accommodation and superb cuisine.
The Association was formed in 1974 with 11 founding members who realised that there was a gap between the bed and breakfast accommodation and the larger hotel industry which was not being marketed at that time. By filling this gap the association has ensured the economic
well being of some of Ireland's historic properties which might otherwise have fallen into decay.
Membership of the Blue Book is by invitation only and hotels and restaurants consider it a prestigious accolade to be invited to join the 'Blue Book Family'. This superb little publication enjoys wide recognition as the connoisseurs guide to the finest Country Houses
Hotels, Castles and Restaurants in Ireland. There are 44 members in the 2008 edition.
The book includes one new entry for 2008. The chosen one for 2008 is Ballyvolane House in Castlelyons, Co. Cork, home to the Green family. Ballyvolane, has been welcoming guests for over two decades under the ownership of Merry & Jeremy Green. Their son Justin took
over the property four years ago having returned from working for several years as General Manager of Babington House in Britain.
Ray Byrne, the current President of Ireland's Blue Book and owner of the Wineport Lodge near Glasson said "whilst the Blue Book is one of the oldest marketing associations, a striking feature for the 2007 season was the changing age profile of guests as properties have
responded by offering additional amenities and facilities such as cookery courses, spas, WIFI access etc."
So whether for a weekend break or holiday vacation in Ireland the accommodation provided by the exclusive boutique style Country House Hotels, Manor Houses, Castles and Restaurants is the ideal choice for the discerning traveller.
From Georgian manors, stately castles, listed historic houses, cosy guesthouses, luxury boutique hotels to designer lodges, Ireland's Blue Book 2008 has something to suit everyone's tastes and requirements.
Several members have won prestigious awards and accolades recently such as Cashel House wining the Best Country House Hotel for Britain and Ireland with the Good Hotel Guide and Rathsallagh House winning the Best Country House Hotel at the recent Hotel & Catering
Review awards.
Ireland's Blue Book can be bought at major bookstores and tourist board offices and is free of charge through Ireland's Blue Book head office and member properties.
