St. Patrick's Day in Ireland, on the 17th March, is the country's national holiday. It is the feast day of the Patron Saint of the country and as such it is a day of celebration and fun for locals and the many visitors who come to Ireland to celebrate with us. There are parades in nearly all the cities and towns and everybody joins in the "craic" (the Irish word for fun).
Ireland's Blue Book is delighted to announce some special packages for visitors wishing to join us for our annual celebration.
The Merrion Hotel, situated in the heart of Georgian Dublin is the perfect location for those wishing to be part of the celebration. Their package includes a picnic box to keep those hunger pangs at bay while enjoying the largest parade in the country. Cheilis and lots of music in the vicinity will make this a lively holiday.
For those wishing to escape to the west The Ice House is offering a Great Escape Package where guests will be greeted with an Irish Whiskey on arrival and enjoy a relaxing spa treatment after the local parade. Cashel Palace Hotel situated adjacent to the historic Rock of Cashel is a terrific place to be for St. Patrick’s Day as all you have to do is step out of the door to witness the local parade. Irish Coffees in the drawing room filled with the warmth of a crackling log fire await guests arriving in Cashel Palace.
Further south in Cork Ballymaloe House is a great favourite retreat for St. Patrick's Day. Guests start the day with a walk in the woods where you are encouraged to pick your own lucky Shamrock. Hot whiskeys, open brown bread sandwiches and cooked bacon will be some of the traditional treats on offer in Ballymaloe.
Donegal is our most northern county and home to some of Ireland's most famous singers, such as Enya. Rathmullan House at the very top of Donegal and is a true getaway place for a relaxing break. Here mothers are regarded as saints and they have a special Saints and Angels package to tempt families with little ones. The little angels will all receive a welcome pack on arrival and the break also includes a babysitter so that Mums and Dads can enjoy a nice romantic evening.
