Looking for the perfect honeymoon in Ireland - then choose this Blue Book romantic getaway, with breathtaking landscapes and luxurious accommodation.

Day 1:

Arrive in Dublin and head straight for the heart of Georgian Dublin.  Enjoy all the thrills of staying in this vibrant city.  Take a tour of the Guinness Storehouse and an open top bus tour of the city.  Overnight:  The Merrion Hotel, a sumptuous 5 star hotel and ideal for your first night of romance.  Dine in either Restaurant Patrick Guilbaud next door to the hotel or L’Ecrivain Restaurant , just a stone’s throw away, both restaurants having Michelin star rating. Or perhaps you would perfer to visit the King Sitric Restaurant in the picturesque fishing village of Howth. Just a short train ride on the DART from Dublin city centre.

Day 2:

Driving south on the west side of the Wicklow mountains you will find yourself in a wonderful parkland landscape.  Passing the famous Curragh racecourse you will see many jockeys practicing for the big race days.  Your first night in the countryside will be at the irrestibly lovely Rathsallagh House, where you will find an abundance of peace and quiet .  Wonderfully large romantic bedrooms await you.  Breakfast is their ‘piéce de resistence’ and will set you up the next day for your travels.

Day 3:  

Take a majestic drive across the Wicklow Mountains, where you will arrive at Glendalough - a remarkable place that will still your mind, inspire your heart and fill your soul.  It is an area renowned for its natural beauty and history.  Stop at the Avoca Handweavers for a light lunch and some shopping before continuing on to Gorey.  Overnight at the luxurious Marlfield House, a magnificent Regency House, where all the bedrooms are beautifully designed for lovers of romance.

Day 4:

Drive to the south coast of the country and take a walk around the romantic Kilmokea Gardens and then a little visit to the famous Hook Lighthouse, one of the world’s oldest operational lighthouses.  Overnight:  Dunbrody House Hotel, where food is their passion and the owner, Kevin Dundon is one of the country’s leading chefs.

Day 5:

A visit to the Waterford Crystal Visitor Centre is always a treat and particularly for those on honeymoon who may wish to buy those lovely cut glass crystal champagne flutes to bring home.  Your next night will be a famous farmhouse called Ballymaloe House, home to the finest of organically produced country produce.  Their cosy bedrooms creak with lovely antiquities.

Day 6:

When you leave Ballymaloe (reluctantly) you can stop by at the nearby Middleton Distillery, home of Irish whiskey and have a little tour there.  Your romantic sojourn will take you on a short drive to visit Fota House, Arboretum and Gardens.  Fota House is an architectural masterpiece and treasure house of art.  Overnight in Longueville House, a beautiful Georgian Manor whose bedrooms are all individually decorated to the highest standard and chock full of antiques.

Day 7:

Drive from Longueville House towards North Kerry and visit the town of Listowel, home to all those would be writers, as this was the home of the famous playwright John B. Keane.  Enjoy a pint in John B. Keane’s pub before heading off towards Ballingarry, near Adare village.  Your last night will be in the quaint Mustard Seed at Echo Lodge, where all the herbs and vegetables are home grown.  Don’t forget to ask for the four poster bedroom for your final night of a honeymoon to remember.

Day 8:

Drive from Ballingarry to Shannon airport (approx. 1.5 hours drive) for flight to U.S.
