Belle Isle is situated on one of the ten islands that are owned by the Estate on Upper Lough Erne, with a bridge connecting it to the mainland. Expect an authentic Country House atmosphere without the frills of modern restorations and furnished with a fine collection of antiques and pictures. There is a tennis court, croquet lawn and boats for hire. Belle Isle Castle is licensed for civil weddings for up to 50 guests.
The Belle Isle School of Cookery offers both day and residential courses. It is run by the resident chef Liz Moore and is supported by Michel Roux. Liz’s expertise and easy-going manner combined with a wonderful sense of humour, make for fun-filled sessions in the cookery school. It is very much a hands-on experience with a maximum of ten students per course. Further information on: www.irishcookeryschool.com
The region also has an abundance of National Trust properties, such as Florence Court, Castle Coole and the Crom Estate. Amongst the many amenities to be enjoyed in the area are golf and superb game fishing on Lough Melvin and the river Mourne.
