Outstanding Onions at Enniscoe House

Ireland’s Blue Book is delighted to announce that The North Mayo Heritage Centre, at Enniscoe House, Co. Mayo was shortlisted in the 2016 National Organic Food Awards for their red and white onions, which took place on Thursday 13th in Dublin.

The National Organic awards are organised by Bord Bia and The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine and mark the achievements of the Irish Organic food and drink growers and manufacturers who create excellent quality organic products in Ireland.

The red and white onions from The North Mayo Heritage Centre at Enniscoe House were selected for the shortlist and included in the direct sales category. Within the last 12 months the garden has supplied a number of the top restaurants in County Mayo and beyond. The organic garden is located within the 3-acre Victorian walled garden at Enniscoe House. The garden produces a vast range of produce all of which are available to buy directly by the public from the garden.

The overall winner on the day was a Gooseberry & Seaweed Chutney from Bluebell Organic farm, Co. Leitrim and were congratulated on their victory by the North Mayo Heritage Centre.

“We were delighted to have been selected for shortlisting by Bord Bia. It recognises both the quality of the product from the garden combined with the marketing and sales of the produce to some of the best known restaurants in the area. The fact that they are happy to include our name on their menus as a supplier is really very rewarding’ said High Trayer, Manager North Mayo Heritage Centre, ‘The garden has now been certified fully organic for 21 years, it has been a fantastic team effort by everyone here’ he continued.

About Enniscoe House

Enniscoe House is listed as a Heritage House of Ireland and has passed to the present through twelve generations of the family to the present owner, Susan Kellett. She has now been joined by her son, DJ Kellett. The family portraits, antique furniture, open fires, good food and wine, and a warm welcome, all contribute to the pleasant and relaxed atmosphere.
