Currarevagh House and Ballymaloe House receive Cesar Awards as 'original Heroes' of the Good Hotel Guide.

October 2012: Ireland’s Blue Book is delighted to announce that the Good Hotel Guide has awarded special César Awards to Ballymaloe House in Co. Cork and Currarevagh House in Co. Galway. The awards were given in recognition of both hotels entry into every edition of the guide since the inaugural edition 35 years ago. Only four hotels in total have achieved this accolade, the golden four are Rothay Manor and Lastingham Grange in England along with Currarevagh and Ballymaloe House in Ireland.

The Good Hotel Guide, first published 35 years ago, is totally independent. Hotels are recommended by readers, backed up where necessary by an anonymous professional inspection. Good Hotel Guide, is considered one of the leading independent guide to hotels of character and quality in Great Britain and Ireland. Each year the guide awards César Awards to outstanding hotels & guesthouses in Ireland and the UK.

Adam & Caroline Raphael, who edit the Guide, are award-winning journalists. Caroline, a former BBC researcher and a travel writer, is editor-in-chief. She has worked on the Guide for more than 30 years. Adam, who has worked for The Guardian, The Observer, the BBC and the Economist, is the Guide's marketing director. Desmond Balmer, formerly travel editor of The Observer, is editor of the British guide. The Guide specialises in small owner-managed hotels and B&Bs in England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland and the Channel Islands and in Continental Europe.
