September 7th, 2009:Amid the music and mud, Blue Book houses bravely rallied to serve fantastic food to this year’s Electric Picnic festival goers.
For their efforts at the festival Blue Book member Rathmullan House from Donegal was awarded "The Green Gourmet Award for Eco-Friendliness" by the Bridgestone Guide. Another Blue Book member, Ballymaloe House as part of Slow Food Ireland team also received a Bridgestone award at the festival.
Rathmullan chef, Ian Orr selected a wonderful menu to wow festival attendees. For breakfast Ian served organic porridge with Glenvar honey, Carrageen moss with walled garden berry compote as well as a proper breakfast bap with Jane Russell sausages and Moyallon bacon. For the kids menu Ian had free range Fermanagh chicken goujons with homemade walled garden tomato sauce and mini Kettyle beef burgers on a Belfast bap. Sustainable fish dishes included Burtonport potted crab, smoked mackerel, crab linguine and seafood chowder. From the barbeque a chargrilled leg of lamb with garden courgettes and tomatoes. Homemade coffee and walnut cake was also available.
The Slow Food menu was equally impressive with a menu which included a whole free range, spit-roasted, suckling pig served with pickles, homemade mayo, dressed greens, and artisanal breads, wood baked thin crust pizza, salads, heirloom tomatoes, homemade fruit crumbles, an Irish cheese plate, apple juice and craft brewed beer.
The Blue Book had a stand in the Farmer’s Market area of the festival and offered a selection of products produced by Blue Book Houses. Included were a range of products from Dunbrody House and Ballymaloe.
The Electric Picnic took place in Stradbally on September 4th, 5th and 6th
