  • Richard Scott Sculpture Exhibition
    at Ballymaloe House

    The Ballymaloe Sculpture Exhibition, curated by Richie Scott, will be hosted on the grounds of Ballymaloe House throughout the summer until the 31st August. This will be the 5th year that Richie has curated and physically created a spectacular outdoor sculptural trail/exhibition on the beautiful grounds of Ballymaloe House. Richie gathers some of Ireland's finest sculptural artists including Eileen MacDonagh, Michael Quane, Patrick O'Reilly, Martha Quinn, Ester Barrett. On this launch evening, guests are invited to enjoy a guided tour of the exhibition with a glass of wine and mingle with some of the artists themselves and discuss their individual pieces.

    The exhibition will be available to view until August 31st and Richie Scott and Hazel Allen will be hosting 1 hour guided tours of the exhibition at 6pm on Tuesday and Thursday evenings throughout the summer.

    For those who feel they are stuck in a cooking rut, repeating the same recipes over and over and need some new inspiration for family cooking at home. Getting the balance right between what the kids like and what the adults want is always tricky. This course will demonstrate tray bakes, slow cooked casseroles, a beef rib Sunday lunch and the perfect dauphinoise potatoes that the whoel family will love.

    September 30th - October 2nd: 3 Day Intensive 2019
     
    An annual three day intensive course where Paul guides you through various disciplines of cooking in an intimate setting. This course is not for a beginner, but for the competent home cook who wants to further their skills. It may also be of interest to those who might want to take their cooking out of the home kitchen and into a more commercial area, such as small café. Paul will focus on how to make the best of seasonal ingredients. How to elevate simple dishes to make them restaurant quality. Secrets of the professional kitchen will be shared along with the recipes that can be adapted for home. Special Rates in the Tannery Townhouse for participants on this course.

    October 5th: Kitchen Confidential - The Insider Knowledge - Practical
     
    Learn the tricks that make a restaurant kithen work and in doing that impress your friends with your insider knowledge. This one day practical course with Paul will be an inspiring day of cooking for those who are already good home cooks and want to improve their skills.

    October 19th: Aga Demo 2019
     
    The perennial favourite Aga – October is here and its time to crank up those Agas. This course is one of the most popular at the Tannery Cookery School every year. Helen Manning is now a familiar face at the school as she assists Paul in the finer points of Aga cooking. From hearty stews and casseroles to baking and slow cooking, this is the course that shows you how to make the most of your Aga. Followed by lunch.

    November 9th: Cooking for Christmas - Morning Demo
     
    Cooking for Christmas doesn’t just mean the traditional roast turkey.   • Enniscoe People Exhibition
    at Enniscoe House

    Enniscoe House and Estate has been owned by the same family for 13 generations. In that time, it has been part of the fabric of North Mayo and its history. The exhibition is a celebration of the generations of families, faces and memories connected to Enniscoe House and Estate.

    The exhibition Enniscoe People will be opened on Saturday the 10th of August in the Enniscoe Conference by Professor Terence Dooley - the Director of the Centre for the Study of Historic Irish Houses at NUI Maynooth, and a god friend at Enniscoe House and its vibrant history. Professor Dooley is also a well known historian and has penned books such as The Decline of the Big House in Ireland, and The Land for the People: The Land Question in Independent Ireland.

  • Harvest Lunch and Walled Garden Tour

    To coincide with the annual harvest of the walled garden, Longueville House marks this special occasion by hosting a Harvest Lunch & Walled Garden walk, talk & taste tour. With the guidance of William O’Callaghan, owner, and Longueville’s Head Gardener, Anthony Hartnett, you will discover the pleasure and excitement of growing your own fruit & vegetables, followed by a stroll through our extensive orchards, cider mill and on-site brandy distillery.

    After the tour, back in the House an autumnal cider cocktail will greet you in the drawing room. William and head Chef, James Cullinane, will prepare a special lunch which includes what is in season, freshly harvested and picked from our Walled Kitchen Garden and Estate all washed down with lashings of Longueville House Cider.     As the year turns and Autumn starts to take its toll on the garden, it’s time to look towards preserving summers efforts in the garden for our autumn displays. At this events guests will learn different techniques for preserving and drying leaves and flowers working with glycerin, bleaching, dying, different drying methods, working with berries seed heads and seasonal foliage and flowers. The group will also look at different methods for gathering seeds and taking cuttings for the following year.

  • Chef Table Experience
    at Mount Juliet Estate

    On Friday 4th of October, Ken Harker, Executive Chef of Mount Juliet Estate, will host a pop up restaurant in The Stables at Mount Juliet, as part of Taste the Island. The Pop Up Restaurant will be a casual, modern and engaging dining experience where the kitchen will be in the centre of the restaurant. Diners will get a Chefs Table dining experience and watch their courses being prepared by Ken and his team in a relaxed, laid back atmosphere.

    Ken Harker will use local Kilkenny ingredients to create a bespoke secret menu that will be revealed on the night which will range of dishes that will be sharing and individually plated. Diners will arrive from 6.30pm and enjoy a welcome drink while they watch the Chef set up and prepare their menu. Drinks on the evening will be a unique menu of cocktails mixed by a mixologist on the night. All spirits and beers will be locally sourced from Kilkenny. 

    This casual banquet offered its guests a totally unique dining experience, as music and food come together to create an amazing event with distinctive dishes all prepared by Ken and his team.

  • Real Cider Making and Harvest Lunch

    To coincide with the apple harvest, Longueville House marks this special occasion by hosting a Real Cider Making walk, talk & tour of the cider house and on-site distillery. Learn the ancient art of cider making followed by traditional Sunday Lunch.

    During a stroll through the orchards, the group will talk all things apples (history, origins, varieties, etc.), helping participants to understand the major differences between small batch, real ciders and mass produced commercial ciders. In the cider mill, you will see the apples being pressed.

    After the tour, back in the House an autumnal hot cider will greet you in the drawing room. William and head Chef, James Cullinane, will prepare a special lunch which includes what is in season, freshly harvested and picked from the Walled Kitchen Garden and Estate all washed down with lashings of Longueville House Cider - real treat for all cider enthusiasts.

    Wild Game is what Chef Richard Corrigan does best. Richard has cooked all his life and is a vehement supporter of British and Irish produce and small independent suppliers.

    Save the Date for Bishop's Gate Hotel's Christmas Decor Masterclass event on Saturday November 23rd and learn how to make your home look beautiful, just in time for Christmas.

    On the day, guests will learn how to create a simple decorative door wreath which they can take home with them and expert florist Bernie will also intruct on how to make a decorative fireplace arrangement.
    The class is being taught by local florist Bernie Jackson of Bernie’s Blooms, and is suitable for beginners.

    After the masterclass, all guests can sit down, relax and enjoy Bishop's Gate's delicious Afternoon Tea.
