This Autumn Newforge House are celebrating Armagh's Food & Cider Festival by offering a special 6-course tasting menu that showcases the very best of local produce. The menu will place emphasis on the Armagh Bramley Apples and Cider. Start the evening with Appletini cocktails and canapés on arrival and relax in the comfortable surroundings of this magnificent 5 star Georgian property
This tasting menu is part of a one-night break during which guests will have the opportunity to visit our kitchen garden and orchard where some of the Ingredients used to create each dish are grown. Diners can also purchase drinks which have been paired to each dish, including local craft beers and ciders.

As part of their 30th year in business celebrations, on the 28th of September Castle Grove Country House are launching the Castle Grove Harvest Food Festival in association with Taste the Island. This also marks the five-year restoration of the Castle Grove Heritage Walled Garden.
This fun-filled family day will be a celebration of Donegal foods and will include an oyster bar, seafood station, and grills with local beef and chicken. Castle Grove will showcase all the produce from their Walled Garden using new and old-world techniques, with a selection of baked goods, both sweet and savoury, including chutneys, pickled vegetables, preserves and much more.
They are also serving their very own heritage apple "Original Cider" and have favourites such as their much-loved Castle Grove Strawberry Gin and renowned local Donegal Kinnegar beer.
The event will take place on September 28th, from 12 pm to 6 pm at Castle Grove Country House Hotel, and best of all, admission is free!

Harvest Lunch and Walled Garden Tour

To coincide with the annual harvest of the walled garden, Longueville House marks this special occasion by hosting a Harvest Lunch & Walled Garden walk talk & taste tour. With the guidance of William O’Callaghan, owner, and Longueville’s Head Gardener, Anthony Hartnett, you will discover the pleasure and excitement of growing your own fruit & vegetables, followed by a stroll through our extensive orchards, cider mill and on-site brandy distillery.
After the tour, back in the House, an autumnal cider cocktail will greet you in the drawing-room. William and head Chef, James Cullinane, will prepare a special lunch which includes what is in season, freshly harvested and picked from our Walled Kitchen Garden and Estate all washed down with lashings of Longueville House Cider. A fun and educational day for all concerned.

Chef Table Experience
at Mount Juliet Estate

On Friday 4th of October, Ken Harker, Executive Chef of Mount Juliet Estate, will host a pop up restaurant in The Stables at Mount Juliet, as part of Taste the Island. The Pop Up Restaurant will be a casual, modern and engaging dining experience where the kitchen will be in the centre of the restaurant. Diners will get a Chefs Table dining experience and watch their courses being prepared by Ken and his team in a relaxed, laid back atmosphere.
Ken Harker will use local Kilkenny ingredients to create a bespoke secret menu that will be revealed on the night which will range of dishes that will be sharing and individually plated. Diners will arrive from 6.30pm and enjoy a welcome drink while they watch the Chef set up and prepare their menu. Drinks on the evening will be a unique menu of cocktails mixed by a mixologist on the night. All spirits and beers will be locally sourced from Kilkenny.
This casual banquet offered its guests a totally unique dining experience, as music and food come together to create an amazing event with distinctive dishes all prepared by Ken and his team.

18th Annual Mushroom Hunt

Don your boots and wellies and hike around the estate in search of edible mushrooms varieties home grown right on the Longueville Estate. With the guidance of Longueville's very own mushroom experts Maria Cullen and Jim Fraser, you can discover the pleasure of this exciting sport here at Longueville House. Afterwards Chef/Proprietor William O’Callaghan along with his team will prepare and cook for you a banquet of autumn mushrooms from the day’s harvest. A fun day out for all & ideal for beginners. Please note that mushroom hunts take place in all sorts of weather so are rarely cancelled due to inclement weather.

Real Cider Making and Harvest Lunch

To coincide with the apple harvest, Longueville House marks this special occasion by hosting a Real Cider Making walk, talk & tour of the cider house and on-site distillery. Learn the ancient art of cider making followed by traditional Sunday Lunch.
During a stroll through the orchards, the group will talk all things apples (history, origins, varieties, etc.), helping participants to understand the major differences between small batch, real ciders and mass produced commercial ciders. In the cider mill, you will see the apples being pressed.
After the tour, back in the House an autumnal hot cider will greet you in the drawing room. Ulster is not only surrounded on three sides by open seas, but is home to Britain’s largest freshwater lake – Lough Neagh – and a vast network of rivers and lakes which provide bountiful fish.
