Day 5 - Cork - Fishing in the River Blackwater
Experience Exceptional Fishing at Longueville House on the River Blackwater, renowned for its prime brown trout and salmon fishing. The Longueville team can arrange for a knowledgeable local ghillie to guide you to secret pools for an unforgettable angling experience.
The fishing season at Longueville House runs from 1st February to 30th September. Located approximately 50 miles from the sea, the river sees good runs of spring salmon in April and early May in recent years.
Only fly fishing or using artificial baits like Toby’s, Flying ©, or Devons is allowed. A double-handed rod is recommended for fly fishing, with fly sizes 4, 6, & 8, including Shrimp, Garry Dog, Cascade, Willie Gun, and Thunder & Lightning flies. For spring fishing, full sinking or sink tip lines are best.
Summer salmon or grilse fishing is typically good in June & July, depending on rainfall. Smaller baits & flies in sizes 10 & 12 with light tackle and floating lines offer better sport during this period.
September also offers a good run of autumn fish and wild brown trout, providing excellent fishing opportunities if salmon are less abundant.
