Ballymaloe House win ‘Trolley of the Year’ at the World Restaurant Awards 2019

19/02/2019

February 2019: Ireland’s Blue Book is delighted to announce that Ballymaloe House, Co Cork has been awarded ‘Trolley of the Year’ at the World Restaurant Awards which took place on Monday 19th February 2019.

The World Restaurant Awards celebrate restaurants as culture, considered in the same way as film, art and music. That means relevant/progressive categories judged with robust integrity by an expert panel in an attempt to better reflect the true range and diversity of the international restaurant scene: from fine dining innovators to humble, accessible establishments; major culinary capitals to more remote destinations.

Ballymaloe House wins in The Trolley of the Year category because unlike most restaurants, at Ballymaloe the sweet trolley never really went out of fashion. The original wooden cart was made in the early 1960s by carpenter Danny Power to Myrtle Allen’s exact specifications.

Darina Allen picked up the award on the night, dedicating it the memory of Myrtle and Ivan Allen, founders of Ballymaloe House.

About the World Restaurant Awards

The World Restaurant Awards were created by IMG in partnership with Joe Warwick and Andrea Petrini to celebrate restaurants as culture, considered in the same way as film, art and music. That means relevant/progressive categories judged with robust integrity by an expert panel to better reflect the true range and diversity of the international restaurant scene: from fine dining innovators to humble, accessible establishments; major culinary capitals to more remote destinations. ‘Expect The World Restaurant Awards to be conducted with complete integrity and make everyone think about the full gamut of the world’s great restaurants – old and new, from luxury destinations to humble institutions – and what makes them so special’ - Joe Warwick.
