South Africa V France: Rathmullan House hosts Winemaker Weekend

Rathmullan House, Co. Donegal will be hosting a very special weekend of wine tasting, food and interesting insights into the world of wine on Friday 22nd & Saturday 23rd March 2019.

In conjunction with James Nicholson Wines, two engaging winemakers will host a weekend series of wine making. Marc Kent from Boekenhoutskloof winery in Franschhoek, South Africa will be joined by his friend Tim Ford the owner of Domaine Gayda, near Carcassonne in France.

The weekend will start with a relaxed masterclass on Friday & a wine tasting dinner on Saturday. It will provide a great way to taste wines and gain an insight and compare wines from the ‘New World’ and ‘Old World’.

Schedule of Events:

Friday 22nd March: Masterclass will commence at 8pm and tickets are priced at €30 per person (includes an hors d’oeuvres plate)

Saturday 23rd March: Dinner is a 4-course menu in the Cook & Gardener restaurant with a combination of wines from both winemakers, as well as a casual chat and information from Marc and Tim. Tickets are priced at €60 per person.

The weekend package of 2 nights Bed & Breakfast with food & wine costs €280 per person in a standard room or €300 per person in a superior room.

About Marc Kent - Boekenhoutskloof, South Africa

About Tim Ford - Domaine Gayda, Languedoc, France

Born in 1960 in England. His father, who owned a small vineyard in the South East of England introduced Tim at an early age to the world of wine. After spending more than 20 years of his life in various African countries where he had a successful horticultural business, he returned to England. Then in 2002 he launched the concept of Domaine Gayda in the south of France. His wife Barbara was thrilled to be back in her country of birth. Domaine Gayda produces a range of red and white wines including the iconic Chemin de Moscou which is regarded as the finest red wine of the Languedoc. 

About Rathmullan House

With its stunning location, right beside the sea, you can stroll through the gardens of this lovely old house down to a mile long sandy beach.
